Austin Healy 3000

When my Mom worked in a hotel on Jersey in the late 50s the local lads would take her and her mates out for high speed drives in their Austin Healys around the Islands derestricted roads.
It's a miracle I'm here!

Looking at all this stuff has made me realise just how much of my life has been influenced by the motor car. Cars owned by myself and my family, working in the motor trade, motorsport, toy and model cars, car magazines, cars in the movies and on TV and then just the cultural impact of living in a world dedicated to and perhaps enslaved by car culture. Pedestrians pushed to the margins, oil crises, public transport, accidents, legislation, tax, the car manufacturing industry, using roads, travelling thousands of miles in persuit of work and leisure. The funny thing is I don't even own a car right now. My last one (Vauxhall Cavalier) was nicked in 2003 and I havn't owned one since. I do have something of a hankering to do some driving at the moment, cover some mileage.
